Fifty Years of Weddings

Timeless London Weddings at St. Ermin's Hotel

For generations, couples have chosen St. Ermin’s Hotel for elegant London weddings filled with character, romance and unforgettable moments. Located in the heart of Westminster, our historic London wedding venue has hosted celebrations spanning decades, each one unique, yet all connected by the same feeling of joy, love and togetherness.

To celebrate this legacy, we invited three couples who married at St. Ermin’s across three different decades, one over 50 years ago, one 10 years ago and one just last year, to return and share their memories of their London wedding day. Their stories revealed how weddings in London have evolved over time, from changing traditions and wedding styles to the way couples now personalise their celebrations.

Yet despite the years between them, every couple shared the same sentiment: their wedding at St. Ermin’s felt exactly how they had imagined it would, personal, meaningful and unforgettable.
Ann and Alan were married on 19 July 1975 in a local church before hosting their wedding breakfast at St. Ermin’s.

Weddings in the 1970s were simpler, with fewer expectations and traditions that felt more relaxed. The bride and groom chose the menu themselves and guests shared the same meal together.

Their wedding breakfast reflected the tastes of the time: chilled melon to begin, roast loin of pork with apple sauce and seasonal vegetables, followed by gâteau Paris-Brest and coffee.

Drinks were equally traditional, with sherry served throughout the celebration. For Ann and Alan, the day was intimate, warm and shared with their closest family and friends.

Even today, they remember the courtyard and lobby, spaces that framed their wedding day with quiet elegance.

Nina and Matt celebrated their wedding at St. Ermin’s ten years ago (2016), drawn to the hotel’s elegant interiors and distinctive spaces.

As a wedding planner herself, Nina cared deeply about the details of the day. The backdrop was just as important as the celebration itself, and the hotel’s classic architecture and interiors provided the timeless setting she had envisioned.

One of Matt’s favourite memories is a photograph of the entire wedding party gathered on the grand staircase, capturing both the joy of the day and the beauty of the surroundings.

For Nina, the goal was to create a wedding that would feel timeless, elegant, personal and enduring. Surrounded by the character and atmosphere of St. Ermin’s, that is exactly what they achieved.

Natalie and Kevin celebrated their wedding at St. Ermin’s last year (2025), creating a vibrant and experience-led celebration.

Guests were welcomed with a cocktail reception featuring St. Ermin’s Gin and Rum, setting the tone for a day filled with atmosphere and celebration.

With friends and family travelling from Paris, London was the perfect destination, somewhere guests could stay together, enjoy the city and celebrate without the complications of travelling outside the capital.

For Natalie, the vision was always a larger celebration with energy and style, while still keeping the experience personal for their guests.

The hotel’s lobby and entrance spaces became the backdrop for their wedding photographs, continuing a tradition shared by couples across generations.
